From General Motors production worker to prospering owner of a GM dealership, E.H. Gus Brown has quite a success story to tell.

It all began with a used car lot at the corner of Kendalwood and Dundas St. E., back in 1963. We had only nine used cars and a single string of outside lights, recalls Mr. Brown who worked long hours building up his business. Every time we sold an automobile in those days, he says, We used to have to rush out and buy another one to maintain a variety for the customers. Later he formed a limited company under the name Gus Brown Motors.

In 1968, Gus acquired the General Motors dealership and opened up at 300 Dundas St. E. Whitby with 23 employees.

Today Gus Brown Pontiac Buick GMC employs over 100 full and part-time employees committed to service excellence. The industry today is much more specialized than in the past says Gus. The ongoing training and specialization are integral in today's dynamic environment and we are up to the challenge. We use state of the art training facilities for all of our departments. The training coupled with our online, web enabled systems provide us with real-time access to General Motors, the dealer network and all of our suppliers.

This specialized service has led to improved customer satisfaction, something in which Gus and his team believe very strongly. It is important that people feel comfortable, he says. We are dedicated to serving our customers. We must be doing something right, because our customers keep coming back.

Achievements include 21 time winner of the General Motors Triple Crown award, 6 time winner of the Jack Smith award given to the top 10 Canadian Dealers, the Reader's Choice award as well as top GM dealer in Canada 2005-1009. 2007 Winner of the Peter Perry award for Outstanding Business over 50 Employees from Whitby Chamber of Commerce. Nominated to the CADA Laureate Program 3 years in a row.

Our philosophy has always been to give back to the community where we do business.  We have been extensively involved with the R.S. McLaughlin Durham Regional Cancer Centre.  Our annual charity golf tournament raised $110,000 last year for the centre.  Over the past 15 years of our event, we have raised almost $500,000 for such a worthwhile cause. Mr. Gus Brown was also Chair for the automotive sector in the Durham Region in its successful quest to raise a further $1.1 Million in the Heroes of Hope campaign for the R. S. McLaughlin Durham Regional Cancer Centre.  The dealership employees also raised a further $100,000 in this campaign.

The dealership is a member of the Durham Community Living Centre and Whitby Chamber of Commerce.  The dealership provides numerous local sponsorships for community activities such as:  hockey, soccer, baseball, lacrosse, curling, figure skating.  We also support school art programs, charity golf tournaments and other charitable organizations.
